Paint-it-yourself – Ikea Storage Box

I purchased cheap storage boxes from Ikea and painted them to create stylish looking boxes to add colour to my bedroom. The final result is shown below.

The boxes started out as plain brown cardboard boxes which you build yourself. As mentioned earlier they were from Ikea and I can’t remember the exact price but they were no more than £8 for 2.

Using acrylic paints I decorated the boxes. For the base colours I did 2-3 coats and left them to dry before painting the flowers on top. The flowers never really needed more than one coat of paint.

I based the two patterns on Cath Kidston flower prints. These can be shown below.

It’s a really cheap way to transform plain boxes using patterns you love. They took me around a day each to complete (including time for the base colours to dry) and therefore they’re a really good weekend/ holiday time filler.
